Golf goes to state tournament

Four Friday Harbor Wolverine golf players went to the 1B2B High School State Tournament in Tumwater on May 21.

“Even though we didn’t make the second day cut into the low 20 golfers, it was a great experience for the players,” Coach Jack Rice said. “I have to remind my players there are probably 100 golfers sitting at home today wishing they had played well enough to make the state tournament.”

Rice added that the school’s golf program, which has grown to 24 players, hasn’t happened without the help of the community. He continued that there are many groups and individuals that help the putters learn about the game of golf and life.

The Wolverines’ scores of the state tournament were as follows: Ethan Havel, 92; Weston Swirtz, 102; Chase Wilson, 104; and Peter Kulseth, 111.

“Winning a spot to the big show is a Big Deal,” Rice said. “They are all winners and I’m proud to be their coach.”
