Friday Harbor shuts down Orcas in 5-0 win | Girls soccer

Friday Harbor speedster Emily Guard notches a "hat trick", with two goals in the first half and No. 3 after the break, in leading the Wolverines to a decisive victory over their inter-island rival.

Friday Harbor’s Emily Guard tallied two goals in the first half and scored a third after the break in leading the Wolverines to a decisive 5-0 victory at home Tuesday, Sept. 11, over Orcas.

Junior defender Libby Snow chipped in a shot from 25 yards out to put the Wolverines out in front 1-0 at the 16-minute of the opening half. Friday Harbor dominated the action in the first half of play and held the Vikings scoreless in the second stanza to notch win No. 1 in league play and even its record at 1-1 overall.

The Wolverines had 22 shots on goal in the first half of play, while limiting the Vikings to only three, first-year Head Coach Paul Hopkins noted.

“They moved the ball around and really played the game, and weren’t just out there playing ‘boot ball’ in this one,” Hopkins said. “We’ve got a ways to go but we’re getting there.”

Senior Robyn Roberts punched in Friday Harbor’s final goal of the game and her first of the season just before the end of regulation.
