Aggressive play and goals by Clara Brand and Megan Goudie propelled the Friday Harbor Wolverines to a 3-0 win over the Orcas Vikings, Sept. 14 at Orcas.

The Vikings played with high intensity, but the Wolverines outplayed them, doing an excellent job keeping the ball on their half of the field throughout the game and firing numerous shots on goal, team manager Madi McPadden reported.

Senior forward Brand fired multiple shots off in the beginning of the first half, with a near miss when her kick bounced off in the 31st minute. Keeping the pressure on, Brand picked up a loose ball in the box and shot wide from the outside for her first goal of the season in the 33rd minute.

As the half came to a close, Brand found the back of the net again, a one=touch shot off a drop from sophomore midfielder Robyn Roberts.

The second half began with an increase of intensity and pressure from Orcas, but the Wolverines’ defense held strong. Sophomore Ellen Goudie, playing for her first time in a varsity game, was a great addition to the already fierce defensive unit, giving Rhiana Franklin little to opportunity to show off her expanding keeper skills, McPadden reported.

The third and final goal of the game came off of a swift one-touch shot from senior defender Goudie off junior Liz Taylor’s corner in the 55th minute of the game, cinching the final score at 3-0.
