The Friday Harbor High School junior put an end to a five-year drought by becoming the first player on the men's team to qualify for a state championship since Tyler McKee, in 2010.

Friday Harbor opens play in the 16-team, 2B state tournament May 29, in Yakima, on the heels of a 10-6 win over the Braves in the district championship game, May 21.

Wolverines score early, often in victory over Vikings | Prep baseball

With the win, the Wolverines clinched second place in the Northwest 2B/1B League and will begin post-season play against the same Vikings Saturday, May 16, at Stanwood High School, beginning at noon. The winner will advance to the championship game, where a berth at the 2B state tournament will be up for grabs.

Caitlyn Domenech swatted a solo home run to lead off the opening inning, a first-ever for the four-year veteran, and Lauren Ayers crossed home plate in the first frame as well, giving the Wolverines an early 2-0 advantage and all the offense they would need to seal both the victory at home and no less than a share of the 2015 Northwest 2B/1B League title.
