The Wolverines got off to a shaky start by giving up three runs in the first inning of the April 17 doubleheader against Orcas.
But after that, it was all Friday Harbor.
Senior Kerri Goff and company held the defending league champs scoreless over the next six innings and tallied five runs of their own along the way to notch a 5-3 victory in the opener.
And the afternoon only got better for the home team.
The Wolverines, capitalizing on a rash of errors by the Vikings and back-to-back-to-back base hits of their own, posted four runs in the first inning of the sequel and jumped out to a 7-0 lead by adding three more in their next at-bat.
They drove the Vikings’ Bobbi Lowry from the mound in the second stanza as Elle Guard smacked a double into centerfield to lead off the inning and Hannah Starr drove her home with an RBI single. Maggie Andersen followed with a standup double and Lowry bowed out after Khaili Radden smacked an extra-base hit in the very next at-bat.
Though they gave up a pair of late-inning runs, the Wolverines tallied four more runs to post an 11-2 win in the nightcap.
