Richie Ochoa shines in WSU debut | Baseball
March 9, 2010 · 9:05 AM
Friday Harbor’s Richie Ochoa tossed two perfect innings of relief to help lead WSU to a 6-3 victory over Bethune-Cookman University, Feb. 27 in Texas.
It was win No. 3 in a four-game sweep by the Cougars at the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic, hosted by Texas Tech Feb. 26-28. With a pair of wins over Bethune-Cookman and over previously-unbeaten Texas Tech, WSU improved to 6-0 and moved one win away from matching its best start since 1993.
With WSU up 4-3, Ochoa, a freshman, got the call in the bottom of the sixth. The hard-throwing lefty struck out two and held the Wildcats without a base hit before giving way to the Cougs’ top closer in the eighth. WSU clinched the win in the ninth.
