The co-champion Friday Harbor Wolverines boys basketball team opens the 2009-10 season with back-to-back home games beginning Friday.
In Friday’s season opener, the Wolverines host the Bush Blazers. The Blazers compete in the 1A Emerald City League, a seven-team Seattle-area league dominated by Bellevue Christian.
Tipoff is 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the Wolverines take on Division 2A South Whidbey, and will have an opportunity to avenge a 1-point loss to the Falcons in last year’s season opener. Tipoff is noon in Turnbull Gym.
The Wolverines’ league opener is Dec. 11 at La Conner.
Last year, the Wolverines finished 10-2 league and 13-7 overall, and tied with Darrington for the league title.
The Friday Harbor girls basketball team opens the season with a two-game home stand.
They face Bush on Friday; tipoff is 4:30 p.m. They take on South Whidbey on Saturday following completion of the boys’ games. Tipoff is tentatively slated for 1:30 p.m.
The Wolverines will be looking to improve on last season’s performance; they finished 3-9 league, 4-15 overall.
Meanwhile, the Friday Harbor wrestlers — who sent three to the Mat Classic last year — open their season on the road Saturday at Bellevue Christian.
The Wolverines will compete against the Bellevue Christian Vikings and Nooksack Valley at the double-dual match, the time of which has yet to be determined.
