Tigers face Arlington in playoff opener | Football

The Friday Harbor Tigers are playoff bound.

The Senior Tigers, who finished an eight-game regular-season schedule at 6-2, will face the Arlington Eagles (5-2) in the first-round of the North Cascade Youth Football League playoffs. The top eight teams out of the 10-team league qualify for post-season play.

The Tigers, led by quarterback C.J. Woods and running back Nathan Steenkolk, will match up against the Eagles at a neutral site that had yet to be determined by Journal press deadline. Tigers Head Coach Glen Hargrove said the game will take place at a neutral site, either in Oak Harbor or in Mount Vernon.

Hargrove said the post-season match ups promise to be tight-contested, as the league’s top six teams, including the Tigers, are evenly matched. The Tigers’ only two losses, one to Bellingham and the other to a different playoff-bound Arlington team, were by a total of 10 points.

It takes three consecutive wins in post-season play to claim the league championship. Friday Harbor’s senior Tigers were league champs in 1999 and in 2003.
