Two different Friday Harbor soccer teams took the field against North Sound Christian Tuesday at home.

The first team seemed to find every possible way to not score despite outshooting their opponents 50-2, allowing the first half to end 0-0.

A bit of coaching "encouragement" perhaps helped turn things around for the final 40 minutes. The Wolverines came out with a relentless attack from the whistle, as senior Alex MacDonald opened the scoring in the first minute of the half. It was her second goal of her career.

This was followed by goals by Elle Guard off Lola Elford's corner kick at 50 minutes and Mandy Turnbull's clinical finish of Emma Ytander's professional cross in the 68th. The final score was junior Hannah Starr's first career goal in the 70th minute.

Rhianna Franklin had little work, thanks to the continued fine play of her defense, but did make three fine saves in recording another shutout.

The Wolverines are now 8-3 overall and at the top of the Northwest 1A/2B League. Next, the team travels to Orcas on Thursday. They begin a four-game homestand Oct. 17 vs. Nooksack Valley.
