Volleyball team hopes to reboot its season vs. upcoming opponents | Volleyball
Dogged by injuries and far from home, the Friday Harbor volleyball team tumbled in three straight as La Conner collected a lopsided win at home Oct. 1 and remained undefeated in league play.
The Wolverines, who lost 6-foot junior Kelsey Barnes to a season-ending injury before the start of the 2009 campaign, were without senior setter Kayla Marvulli, injured and unable to play, and had a single substitute on the bench.
They were swept twice in three straight games last week, first at home against Darrington, and then on the road at La Conner.
The Loggers won the first two games of the match with ease as Friday Harbor folded by scores of 25-19 and 25-13. The Wolverines rebounded in the third game and led 18-17 before Darrington took seven of the next nine points and claimed the match with a 25-20 victory in Game 3.
The Braves, which have yet to drop a game, let alone a match, in Northwest 1A/2B League play this season, improved to 5-0 in league. They are one match ahead of Darrington (4-1) in the race for the league crown.
The Wolverines fell to 1-5 in league and 1-7 overall. The Wolverines will look to get back on the winning track on the road Thursday at Concrete, winless in league play so far this season.
