All five Friday Harbor golfers made the cut at the 1A State Golf Tournament today, at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland.

Senior Dustin Howard, in his first year as a Wolverine golfer, led his team members with a 2-over 74. Tyler McKee shot 75, Tri-District champion Jordyn Taylor shot 78, Cody Price shot 79, and Megan Cuomo shot 88.

The cut for boys was 81.

The temperature proved to be a formidable foe — 88, hot for islanders — but "they put a lot of sunscreen on and drank a lot of water," Coach Bryan Germain said. Another source of pressure: Making the cut. "That's the hard part," Germain said. "Tomorrow, they can play a lot more loose."

Competition resumes Thursday; Cuomo tees off at 7:30 a.m.

Columbia Point Golf Course is a tight course with mounded, rolling fairways and large, undulating greens. The course is ranked 11th in Washington by the Western Golf Alliance.

"These are the fastest greens we've played on all year," Germain said.
