Two firsts, one second for Schmidt in Edmonds meet | Track & Field

Senior Otto Schmidt won first place in the 3200- and 1600-meter and second in the 800-meter run at a meet March 21 in Edmonds vs. North Sound Christian School.

Schmidt ran the 3200-meter in 11:09.0. Freshman Sean McLaughlin finished in 15:12.0.

Schmidt ran the 1600-meter in 4:51.2. Sophomore Wilson Schubert finished in 5:34.0.

Schmidt ran the 800-meter in 2:10.0. Schubert finished in 2:43.0.

Senior Miklos Horvath, an exchange student making his debut as a Wolverine runner, finished sixth in the 100-meter with a time of 12.84 seconds.

— Long jump: Lucas Jagel, freshman, first place, 17 feet 6 inches. (A personal record).
— Long jump: Miklos Horvath, fourth place, 15 feet 7 inches.

— Short jump: Miklos Horvath, 4 feet 8 inches.

— High jump: Christine GrosJacques, senior, third place, 4 feet 5 inches.

— Javelin: Kayla Short, junior, first place, 97 feet 8 inches.
— Javelin: Christine GrosJacques, 66 feet.

— Javelin: Wilson Schubert, 109 feet 6 inches.
— Javelin: Lucas Jagel, 84 feet 7 inches.
— Javelin: Gabe Scott, senior, 84 feet.
— Javelin: Malcolm Wynn, freshman, 72 feet 11 inches.

— Shot put: Gabe Scott, senior, 30 feet 9 inches.

Although the team was down in numbers because of illness and scheduling conflicts, Coach Darrin Scheffer believes the Wolverines are off to a great start.

“Our kids will gain valuable experience during this week that will allow them to see and experience a lot of track in a short time period," he said. "When the dust settles, we will have an opportunity to see which events best fit our talents and skills.”

His athletes agreed.

“It was a solid first meet, a good starting point for improvement later on,” Schmidt said.

Schubert added, “It was a great start for the team. I can tell it is going to be a great season."

Next:The Wolverines traveled to La Conner on Tuesday. They travel to Lynden Christian on March 27 for the Bedlington Invitational. On April 3, the Wolverines host Mount Vernon Christian.
