Porter scores four goals as Wolverines advance in district playoffs

Whitney Porter scored her 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th goals of the season to help lead the Wolverines to a first-round soccer district playoff win Wednesday against Coupeville.
The Wolverines, who finished the regular season 9-1 league, 10-5 overall, defeated Coupeville 4-2. They could advance to the tri-district tournament Nov. 5 with a win against Meridian at Whatcom Community College. Win or lose, Friday Harbor plays Saturday at Oak Harbor High School against a to-be-determined opponent.
After yielding Coupeville an early penalty kick on a phantom call to trail 0-1 at 15 minutes, things turned Friday Harbor's way. Porter scored a hat trick with goals at 27, 34, 41 minutes, all assisted by Clara Brand, and it was 3-1 at the interval.
Ten minutes into the second half, Porter scored her fourth goal, again off a Brand delivery. The remainder of the game was a mopping-up operation blemished only by a Coupeville tally at the death.
