Friday Harbor volleyball team loses close one to Orcas
The Friday Harbor Wolverines lost to the Orcas Vikings 3-2 over the weekend at the Lopez Tournament.
But the Vikings got a taste of the Wolverine resilience they could expect today during a rematch, at Orcas High School. Both teams have seasoned veterans and displayed an intimidating degree of aggression at the front of the net.
Orcas won the first game 25-15. Friday Harbor won the second game 25-19 and the third game 26-24.
Orcas rebounded in the fourth game with a 25-20 victory, then won the final and defining game 15-3.
The Vikings gained momentum during the match and eventually turned the tide and forced errors on the Wolverines, scoring points and minimizing mental errors on their side of the court.
Vikings Coach Greg Sasan said, “When I saw those young people carry themselves with confidence after a time out, I knew they would be ready to roll.”
Many of the Vikings had great personal games. Freshman Kathryn Tidwell's underhanded serve netted the Vikings 11 points, April Hoffman had several kills at the net. Emma Gallo-Chasanoff had several aces. Anika Thomas contributed several kills and Sydney Harris had multiple attacks at the net and several more kills.
