In the first game of the season, the Friday Harbor Wolverine girls volleyball team fell to non-league Lynden Christian last Thursday, 25-10, 25-19, 24-26 and 25-12.

That they stole a game 26-24 over the Lyncs is considered by players and loyal followers to be fairly important. The Wolverines have been in a rebuilding mode for the past several seasons, and they have not won against Lynden Christian in recent memory.

“They outshot us,” senior Kelsie Carlton said, giving credit to the Lyncs’ athleticism. The Bellingham Herald reported that four players on the Lyncs accounted for 49 kills.

Sophomore Kelsey Barnes played despite an injured knee, apparently with few complications, her teammates said.
