Volunteers needed for the 8.8K Loop Run
The Friday Harbor 8.8K Loop Run has taken place for 31 years on the Saturday of the San Juan County Fair.

A dozen or so volunteers are needed the morning of Aug. 16 to assist with registrations, traffic control, timing and water stations. If you want to be part of an island tradition and have a few hours in the morning to spare, call Sally Thomsen at Island Rec at 378-4953.

If you are not interested in volunteering but want to run in the race, get your registration in by Friday and save $5. Registration forms are available from Island Rec, San Juan Island Fitness and www.islandrec.org.

The 31st year of the Friday Harbor 8.8k Loop Run takes place Aug. 16.

Registration fees received before Friday is $10 for children 12 and under and $15 for racers 13 and older and include the race, awards, entry into the fair and a commemorative tee shirt.

After Friday, fees increase by $5.

Registration forms are available from Island Rec at 580 Guard St., www.islandrec.org, San Juan Fitness at 435 Argyle Ave., and www.active.com

Runner check-in and day of registrations takes place in the Wells Fargo parking lot, located on the corner of Argyle Avenue and Spring Street from 7:30-9 a.m. The race starts promptly at 9:15 a.m. in front of Friday Harbor Drug.

Proceeds from this event benefit Island Rec’s youth scholarship program and San Juan Fitness swim scholarship program.
