San Juan golfer sinks hole-in-one, wins tourney next day

It only took Rich Rae 14 years — and probably close to 1 million swings at a golf ball — to produce his first hole-in-one.

It happened during Saturday Men’s Club competition at San Juan Golf and Country Club. He used a 9-iron to sink the hole-in-one on the 156-yard par 3 sixth hole.

Rae was also the low net winner of Sunday’s tournament, the SanJuanRon Invitational, hosted by Ron Bates.

Twenty-eight players — eight from off-island — played in the 18-hole, low-net event. Rae’s 65 net score was good enough to edge Charles Thomas for the winning spot.

The course is in top form for the San Juan Open, Friday through Sunday.
