Junior tennis player Peter Duggins lost his quad-district qualifier Monday in Coupeville but, according to him, the win couldn't have gone to a nicer guy.
"He's a really friendly guy," Duggins said. "It was a cordial match. We were evenly matched."
Duggins played District II's No. 4 singles player in a bid to qualify for the 1A Quad-District Tournament today and Friday at the University of Washington. It was Duggins' third consecutive year at the quad-district qualifier.
Playing under partly cloudy skies, Duggins won the first set 6-1, lost the next in a tie-breaker 6-7, then lost the third set 4-6.
Duggins said he managed to get only a couple of weeks of practice in in the period between the fall boys tennis season and the spring playoffs. It rained a lot and he traveled to India and Thailand with his Spring Street International School class.
No. 1 singles Josh Lehr and No. 1 doubles Pablo Lopez and Zach Milkis are at U.W. today. Amanda Root, Friday Harbor's No. 1 girls tennis player, travels to Bally's in Federal Way Saturday for the 1A Bi-District Tennis Tournament.
