A short-handed Friday Harbor volleyball squad will be looking to pull off an upset and collect its second win of the year, Thursday, at home, against league-leading Darrington.

The match begins at 4:45 p.m. in Turnbull Gym.

The Wolverines, however, will have to overcome long odds. The Loggers sit atop the Northwest 1A/2B League standings, at 4-0.

Moreover, Friday Harbor, competing without a single senior in the lineup this season, must face the Loggers without one of its more experienced players on the court. Sidelined by an ankle injury, sophomore Kendra Meeker, who cracked the starting lineup as a freshman a year ago, missed two of the team's last three matches, a straight set loss Saturday against Meridian, followed by Monday's defeat on the road to league rival Mount Vernon Christian in three straight as well.

Still, the Wolverines (1-3 league, 1-5 overall) have proven scrappy and competitive this season, at home, in particular. They took a first-ever game off Lynden Christian, a perennial 1A state tournament team, in five years in an early season match up and fell to Orcas two weeks ago in a hotly contested five-set thriller.

On the heels of Thursday's match up at home against Darrington, the Wolverines host regional 1A rival Nooksack Valley, Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. in Turnbull Gym
