Sunshine and temps in 70's; forecast couldn't be better for S.J. Celebrity Golf Classic, June 3 and 4
The course is ready. The celebrities are on their way. And the forecast couldn't be better.
There's plenty of sunshine in store -- temperatures are expected to sneak into the 70's -- as San Juan Golf and Country Club hosts the 25th annual San Juan Celebrity Golf Classic, June 3rd and 4th.
Sponsored by Islanders Bank, the celebrity classic is the island's longest-running charitable event and proceeds provide financial support for nearly a dozen island non-profits, including the Family Resource, Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and the Friday Harbor High School Band.
Topping this year's field of celebrities will be former Husky three-point specialist Ryan Appleby, hydroplane racer Kayleigh Perkins Mallory, her hydroplane racing brother, Brian Perkins, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Craig Terril, legendary Husky quarterback Sonny Sixkiller, drummer Allan White of the rock band Yes; sportswriters Percy Allen and Jim Moore, San Juan Island's own Lisa Morretti, a former professional wrestler, a trio of Seahawks Seagals, and a host of DJ's and radio personalities.
Members of the winning foursome will have their names engraved on the John Linde Memorial Plaque at Islanders Bank. (The late judge Linde, San Juan County's first-ever elected superior court judge, competed regularly at the classic and was one of its most enthusiastic supporters).
It's not too late to sign up to play and enjoy two days of friendly competition on the golf course.
And there's plenty of entertainment in the mix, even if golf isn't your bag.
The event features a silent and a live auction, a traditional salmon barbecue dinner -- 400 pounds of Alaskan salmon has been donated by San Juan Seafood once again -- and an evening of music performed by the high school band.
And then there's the opportunity, of course, to chat with some of the region's most recognizable personalities from field of the sports and entertainment.
Saturday night's live auction will get under way under the big tent at 5 p.m., the salmon dinner begins at 6 p.m. Dinner tickets are $25; contact Becki Day, 378-9519, to order dinner tickets or to sign up to play.
