It's time to get the tackle box in order.
The 7th Annual Frank Wilson Memorial Winter Blackmouth Derby is just around the corner.
The derby runs Feb. 1 through April 15. That's more than two months of tight lines and competitive fishing, and it's for a good cause as well.
Founded as a tribute to former EMS Chief Frank Wilson, the derby is a fundraiser for San Juan Island Emergency Medical Services, and all derby proceeds benefit SJI EMS.
The entry fee is $50.
Weekly prizes are awarded for the biggest fish of the week. Grand prizes await those with the three largest fish that hit the scales during the derby's 10-week run. The grand prizes are:
1st Place — $1,000
2nd Place — $500
3rd Place — $250
But that's not all. Cash and prizes will be awarded for the derby Mystery Fish and at an end-of-event raffle drawing.
Tickets can be purchased at King's Marine Center, 110 Spring Street, Friday Harbor.
