Tough play, but tough finishes, for Friday Harbor boys tennis

Friday Harbor junior Hayden Place battled into a tie-breaker but fell just shy of taking the No. 1 singles match in an 8-7 (7) loss, Oct. 13 at Cavelero.

Ryan Cole and Parker Satin evened the match with a 8-4 win in No. 1 doubles. But Cavelero netted three more doubles victories.

Friday Harbor’s Cody Coyne and Kevin Malone netted the No. 5 doubles bout 8-3. Zack Reitan and Stephan Chadwick cruised to an 8-1 victory in the final doubles match of the contest.

Swirling winds and a well-seasoned South Whidbey squad got the better of the Wolverines as juniors Ryan Cole and Hayden Place came up just short in singles play Oct. 11 in Friday Harbor.

The Falcons, a Division 2A team, took the advantage in the match as Place fell 8-6 in No. 1 singles and Cole dropped the No. 2 singles match by the same score. The juniors avenged their singles losses by joining forces and taking the No. 1 doubles match 8-6.

Elwyn Pratt netted two games in an 8-2 loss in singles, while Stephan Chadwick fell 8-1 in singles. Teamed together in No. 2 doubles, Chadwick and Pratt were defeated 8-4. Junior Shaughn Anderson and sophomore Cody Coyne lost 6-0, 8-3 in No. 3 doubles.
