Jim Lawson caught a 32.10-pound king in the Einar Nielsen Becky Barr Fishing Classic, outdistancing the competition to win the tournament and its first prize of $5,000.

The 26th annual classic was Sept. 23-26 at Roche Harbor. All proceeds from the classic supports scholarships for graduating high school seniors. In June, the classic awarded about $15,000 in scholarships.

It was the first time the classic awarded cash prizes. Other changes: Hamburgers and hotdogs served nightly on the party barge, in place of the salmon barbecue finale, and prizes for young fishermen.
