Trashion Fashion: You can do it, and it is fun

The Trashion Fashion Show is scheduled for opening night of the San Juan County Fair, Aug. 18, 2010. And if your life is anything like mine, time is flying.

I'm encouraging you to take stock of your surroundings, your discards and your overload, and see what you can come up with designwise.

You can do it, and it is fun. I started talking to businesses on Spring Street and everyone has plastic and cardboard to get rid of, but keep your eyes peeled at yard sales and the thrift store for some product you use a lot.

There is plenty of throwaway stuff. I was thinking of popped balloons so birds don't eat them, plastic tips from fireworks that are strewn on our beaches, dryer sheets, coffee bags, old credit cards, bottle caps. I know you can figure out a way to make your outfit. The Fair Office — 378-4310 or visit www.sanjuancountyfair.org — has all the particulars.

Thank you and good luck,
