There will be a benefit spaghetti dinner on Oct. 24, 4-7 p.m. at Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church for Gary and Margo Posenjak, who are missionaries in northwest Alaska.

This event is sponsored by the Presbyterian Church and Islands Community Church. Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and younger. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the church or at the door.

The menu will include spaghetti, salad, homemade bread and desserts. Coffee, tea and a cool beverage will be available. Carry-out will be provided for those who wish to take a meal home.

The Posenjaks were long-time residents of Friday Harbor who left two years ago to work at KAKO, a Christian retreat center in a remote part of Alaska. The center provides Christian Bible camps for children, marriage counseling for residents of nearby villages, retreats for public school educators in remote villages, and drug and alcohol counseling.

In addition, the Posenjaks conduct a Kids' Club in Russian Mission, a 35-mile snowmobile ride away, weekly during the school year.

KAKO is an airplane-based ministry, flying children and adults from many small villages in the area. Thus, the increased cost of airplane fuel has hurt their budget immensely. The proceeds from this dinner will go to help offset increased costs.
