Baffled, disillusioned by contract debacle | Letters
Dear Rick and Jamie;
I was baffled by your July 31 meeting, where a number of county residents asked about your contract with Lovel Pratt and you both responded to those residents with stonewalling —and to each other with hostility. What’s going on?
(See, “Rule of one? Canceled contract smacks of political payback, micro-management,” As I See It).
It appears that your colleague Bob Jarman unilaterally arranged to cancel that contract, and that the two of you are acquiescing.
It also appears that you want to go it alone on keeping up with the shipment of coal and oil by train and ship in the area—a gigantic task considering all the other matters you have to attend to —rather than rely on the best-informed county citizen who was prepared to keep you up on these matters for a mere $5,000. I don’t get it.
None of this makes any sense.
I think you need to reinstate the contract in order to protect our waters, the whales, our quality of life, our tourist industry, and our real-estate values. And you need to make it clear to all that you won’t tolerate one member of the Council making such decisions all by himself.
