Spirit of giving sparkles at FHES | Letters

The student council at Friday Harbor Elementary School organized an all-school fundraiser that raised $1,000.

Every year, the Friday Harbor Elementary Student Council organizes a fundraiser to raise funds to donate to a charitable organization of their choice. This year, the student council voted to donate the funds to the Red Cross Oso Disaster Relief.

On Thursday, June 12, the student council officers presented the school’s donation to Red Cross Community Partnership Lead Allan Smith of San Juan Island.

Funds were collected by having a coin-drive in each classroom and by the sales of custom-designed Friday Harbor Elementary T-shirts and sweatshirts. Dexter Prescott, this year’s student council treasurer, is a talented artist and is the student who designed the eagle logo featured on the T-shirts and sweatshirts.

All of the students and families at Friday Harbor Elementary School helped to raise the money for this generous donation; thank you very much.

And thank you to Allan Smith for attending our assembly and accepting our donation on behalf of the Red Cross.

Mikah Smith, FHES student council advisor
