Letters to the Editor

Our garden grows with your support | Letters

The San Juan Island Community Gardens would like to thank the many supporters we have had this past growing season, particularly Ace Hardware, Browne’s and Skyline Tree Care.

We collected compostables from The Doctor’s Office, San Juan Coffee, The Green House Cafe and Friday Harbor Espresso for compost to enrich our soil. The Seventh Day Adventist Church provides us with the space and water.

The Dollars For Scholars program added a strong, young soil-turning student into our midst. Six additional gardeners joined the 12 of us this season growing fresh produce for our families. Excess produce was taken to the Food Bank and shared with friends.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, 1-3 p.m., an Open House will be held at The Gardens as part of The Island Grown Festival. Snacks made from our garden produce will be served.

Prospective, and interested gardeners, and community folks are invited to visit at The Gardens on Gilbert Lane off San Juan Valley Road.

Marty Ahart, Coordinating volunteer
