Big bite for Brann Cabin restoration | Letters

Sunset, seashore, bonfire, history. The second annual Brann Cabin Dessert Bake-Off and Bonfire-by-the-Sea is taking place at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday evening, May 22nd and I hope to see lots of us islanders there.

The tiny, amazing, one-of-kind Brann cabin is so very close to being restored; you and your pie can help make the dream reality.

If we all come with our prize pies and a little bit of money to contribute, or even without a pie but with a hankering for a good island-made dessert, we could push the proverbial fundraising thermometer red up to the top.

Not only would we all have fun as the sun sets into the sea and we gather cozily around a roasty-toasty bonfire, but the Brann cabin could once and for all have new windows and door and the finishing touches to give it a new life.

Heck, come even if you can’t contribute, just bring some good cheer. And children, oh yes, bring them too. The Brann cabin loves us all.

The San Juan County Parks Department has worked valiantly over the past five years to scrape together small grants and donations for this worthy historic restoration project.

Please join me for a lovely spring sunset with your island neighbors and our friend, the Brann Cabin.

Sandy Strehlou, San Juan Island
