Capable, dependable, accessible; Jarman for county council | Letters

January 22, 2013 · 8:56 AM

I have known Lovel Pratt for 20 years, and Bob Jarman for more than 25. Based on my knowledge of and experience with both these candidates, I enthusiastically endorse Bob Jarman for county commissioner.

Bob has served the people of this county for nearly 40 years. As an employee and supervisor for Inter-Island Telephone company (back when it was a truly local company committed only to the needs and interests of islanders), the role in which I initially met him, he proved himself a highly capable manager with a focus on solving problems and serving his clients.

He was accessible to anyone — you could walk into his office, grab him on the street, or call him up any time and get whatever your problem was solved. He thrived on meeting challenges and getting things done.

As the county council transitions from a policy making body to a management body, we need commissioners with the kind of real world management experience and knowledge of the county that Bob will bring.

As a businessman with an abiding love for these islands that have been his home for most of his adult life, he understands that the county must balance the need to create and maintain a strong economy with the need to protect this special place we all love.

Bob is not a politician, but is truly non-partisan.  He is not affiliated with or indebted to any special interest group. Rather, he can and, I know, will represent all islanders fairly and honestly.

The quality of our life in this county will depend on the quality and integrity of the people we elect to lead us. Bob Jarman is the kind of leader we need and deserve.
