Guns, Fair and GOP; what's up with that? | Letters

August 23, 2012 · Updated 9:01 AM

Is it just me, or is anyone else confused by the Republicans sponsoring a shooting gallery at the county fair?

Most of the people I saw at their booth were children under the age of 12.

Okay, I understand second amendment rights, and I understand the “need” for a hunting rifle or hand gun, but what is the message here for our youth? Guns are the number one political issue of 2012? You need to be prepared to defend against radical Canadians?

Instead, how about next year the Republicans post some signs on their booth inviting spirited discussion, like, “Are you ok with Obama’s tax, borrow, and spend policy?” or, “The deficit, your child’s future,” or, “How can we create more jobs on this island?”

I can’t prove it, but I seriously doubt that any independent voter was swayed toward the Romney/Ryan ticket based on that booth.
