What dad wants most of all | Ferry Home Companion
When your Dad’s older than dirt like me, it’s no trick to finding the right gift these days… just give him a call on his cellphone.
Also be sure his wife has reminded him to put in his hearing aids. (I used the words “his wife” advisedly because that isn’t always synonymous if Dad has been widowed or divorced in the past).
Main thing is your voice… it’s what he hopes to hear most!
If you live within driving, flying or sailing distance and can afford fuel or fare, it’s great to drop in for a few days to catch up.
As for the gift, if it’s clothing, try to find out his current size. When I came up here in 1979 I weighed 232 pounds. My brother Stan the Doc suggested I join overeaters anonymous.
I lost a half-pound per month for years. I got down to 170 pounds in 1984 and went from 6-foot and l/2 inches tall to 5 feet 10 inches. Subsequently, few of my old clothes fit me. Believe me, I never complain, it’s more important for us oldsters to be remembered by those we have loved these many years. Your smiles tell it all.
Happy Father’s day and Go With the F.L.O.W. (Ferry Lovers of Washington)
