Stuart W. Ewing obit

Stuart Wilson Ewing, 59, of Renton, Washington and San Juan Island, was a son, husband, father, businessman and pilot. He was all of these things and more.

Born Nov. 28, 1956 in Seattle, Washington and adopted son of Howard and Marion Ewing, he grew up in Madison Park. In his teenaged years, he fell in love with flying. He soloed at the age of 15 1/2 and was licensed to fly by 16. Stuart attended and graduated from the University of Puget Sound. He went on to get multiple aircraft ratings and became a corporate pilot.

Married in 1981, he is survived by his wife, Tami Ewing and their three children: Nathaniel Ewing, Erica McCulloch and Emily Ewing. He considered his children, his greatest accomplishment. Upon his parents’ passing, he took over the family property management business and made it thrive. He loved to fly over remote places and discover new destinations. He also loved to drive and thought nothing of driving 12 hours a day and then camping at Walmart, along the way. While exploring, he discovered the San Juan Islands. It became our second home.

Taken from us too soon, Stuart passed away Nov. 15, on San Juan Island. Stuart will be buried at Valley Cemetery on San Juan Island, in a private ceremony with his family in attendance. A celebration of his life will be scheduled for the future. He was taken from us much too soon and will be forever missed. He’s traded in his airplane wings for a different set of wings. He now has clearance for his final approach.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Anacortes and the San Juan Islands. To share a memory of Stuart please visit www.evanschapel.com and sign the online guest register.
