James Roscoe Evans, Jr. | 1927-2017

James Roscoe Evans, Jr. was born May 3, 1927 in Maryville, Tennessee to Elizabeth Huddleston Evans and James Evans, Sr. He died peacefully Sept. 20, 2017 in Seattle. James graduated from Central High School in Knoxville, TN and received his engineering degree from the University of Tennessee.

Jim served in World War II and the Korean War. He later was active in the U.S. Coast Guard reserves. Jim met his future wife, Eleanor Janet Ward, while working in New Orleans. They were married there and moved to Lake Hills, Bellevue for his career at Boeing. He worked at Boeing and also Keyport Naval Undersea Engineering Station near Silverdale where he raised daughters Susan and Nancy.

Jim was an avid pilot and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, jazz music and foreign films. He especially enjoyed spending time on Henry Island in the San Juan Islands where he built his cabin with the help of his father from Tennessee.

Jim lived independently in Eldorado Hills, Silverdale until 2016. He spent the last chapter of his life at Daystar Retirement Village, where he enjoyed his new friends and the caring staff.

Jim is predeceased by his parents, wife Eleanor and sister Nancy. He is survived by his oldest daughter Susan Evans-Wickberg (Dan), youngest daughter Nancy Evans and his granddaughter Eleanor Evans-Wickberg whom he adored. Also, nephews David Mayes (Kathy) and Steve Mayes (Susan).

There will not be a service. Jim’s ashes will be buried next to Eleanor’s on San Juan Island.
