Dorothy Luverne Tanem

Sept. 4, 1921 — June 26, 2013

Dorothy Luverne Tanem was born Sept. 4, 1921 in Spooner, Minn. She graduated from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minn., with her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1943.

She met her husband to be, James Robert Owens, at age 15 and they married June 15, 1943. Dorothy worked as a substitute elementary school teacher briefly, then spent the rest of her time raising three boys.

Dorothy and Jim loved to travel and thoroughly enjoyed their travels to Europe, and had a special fondness for Carmel and Pismo Beach, California.

Dorothy loved to write, dance, appreciated fine paintings and collected many, as well as fine glass and figurines.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband James Robert Owens, in June of 2012.

She leaves behind her son Dana, his wife Debbie and her grandson, Brent Owens of Friday Harbor; her son Greg and his wife Linda Owens of Burbank, Calif., her son Todd Owens, currently of Friday Harbor, her grandson Chad and his two daughters. Also granddaughters Samantha and Rebecca, both out of state.

She passed away peacefully at home June 26, 2013, joining her husband Jim of 69 years, “now doing the two-step together”.

Private family services will be held.
