Anne Solomon Kozloff passed away peacefully at Lighthouse Memory Care in Anacortes, Washington, on Oct. 31, 2017, just one day before her 100th birthday.

Born Nov. 1, 1917, in San Bernardino, California, to Samuel and Lila (Hinojosa) Solomon, she grew up in nearby Riverside.

After graduating from Riverside Junior College, she worked several years as a proofreader for Riverside’s daily newspaper until she married the love of her life, Eugene Kozloff, on October 20, 1944. After living many years in Lake Oswego, Oregon, and then in Friday Harbor, Washington, where Gene taught at the University of Washington Friday Harbor Laboratories, Anne and Gene settled in Anacortes in 2007.

Anne enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing the piano, baking cookies, helping proofread her husband’s manuscripts, and volunteering at her church and in libraries. Her gentle and generous nature, sense of humor and quick wit endeared her to those who knew her. She rarely had an unkind word to say about anyone. In spite of the frustrating loss of eyesight, hearing, and memory in her later years, she tried to be cheerful, and she continued to entertain her family, caregivers, and friends by playing her harmonica.

Anne is preceded in death by her elder sister, Rachel Marie Deets, and by her beloved husband Gene in March 2017.

She is survived by her daughter Rae Kozloff and partner James Wells of Anacortes. There will be no services.
