Albert Jones passed away peacefully in San Francisco, Calif., Aug. 1, 2013.

Albert was born in Seattle, Washington where he attended Fauntleroy Grade School, James Madison Jr. High School and graduated from West Seattle High School, class of 1942.

He entered the U.S. Navy V-5 program in 1942, and was commissioned as a naval aviator, serving as a PB2Y-5 seaplane pilot in VPB-13, in the Pacific, ending up in Okinawa on VJ Day, August 1945.

In 1946, he joined the Masonic Order and was a life member of St. Johns No. 9 lodge of Seattle, the Scottish Rite of Seattle, and Seattle Nile Temple of the Shrine.

In 1946, he attended the University of Washington where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. In 1948 he transferred to the University of Arizona, graduating with the class of 1950.

He resided in Japan from 1950-55, working for first, Barclay & Co. of Seattle, and then with Getz Brothers of San Francisco. In 1953, he co-founded Girdwood, Jones and Company, an export firm in San Francisco that is still in business.

In 1970 he purchased Wightman, Crane and Stuart, an export shipping company in continuous operation out of San Francisco since 1865.

He was a life member the Tokyo American Club, the YCAC Yokohama Country and Athletic Club, and the Kobe Club in Kobe, Japan. He also was a 46-year member of the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, Wash.

In San Francisco, he was a longtime member of the Bohemian Club, where he was a member of Forepeak Camp.

He resided for over 40 years in the San Juan Islands and was the owner of San Juan Ferry and Barge since 1976.

He is survived by daughters Kimberly Jones Kruse (John), Kelly Jones Pratt (Keith) and granddaughters Allison and A.J. Kruse.
