The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

June 12

• A Lopez Island deputy was called to a single-vehicle hit-and-run collision resulting in property damage after an Orcas Power and Light Cooperative employee responded to an outage and discovered that a vehicle had struck a transformer. The driver had fled the scene, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

• A deputy responded to a report of a possible probation violation in Friday Harbor. The deputy met with the individual involved and forwarded a report to their probation officer.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for not wearing a seat belt. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.

• A Lopez deputy assisted state child protective services workers in assessing the safety of a child’s home. The child was then taken into protective custody.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a driver for not wearing a seat belt. The driver, who argued they were wearing a seat belt, although improperly, was issued a citation for an improperly fastened seat belt.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for having defective taillights. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a runaway juvenile. While searching the area, the juvenile came home.

June 13

• A deputy responded to a found-property call in Friday Harbor. Since there was no indication of the owner, the property was submitted to the evidence room.

• A wanted person was located and arrested in Eastsound, transported off island and booked into jail.

• An Orcas deputy took a report of harassment in the Eastsound area.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a collision.

June 14

• Orcas deputies responded to a domestic dispute in Eastsound.

• A deputy on Lopez investigated a dog-barking noise complaint. The dog owner was identified, and the matter was resolved. The reporting person and dog owner agreed to be in contact with each other if the dogs created a disturbance in the future.

• A Lopez deputy assisted child protection services after they could not make contact with a suspect in a child neglect case. The deputy was able to locate the suspect and a report was completed.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a vehicle having struck both another vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries, and the offending driver was issued a citation for failing to yield and for not having insurance.

• Orcas deputies responded to a civil dispute in Eastsound involving a local woman who has been causing trouble in the community.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing complaint after a homeowner’s video surveillance system showed several people outside the residence. When the deputy arrived, the people were gone, and there was no indication a crime had been committed.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a suspected stolen-item call after a person reported seeing an unidentified person leave what he thought was a valuable item at a suspicious location. There was, however, no report of the item being listed as stolen or lost.

• A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle prowler in Friday Harbor. An item was reportedly removed from a vehicle while parked at a local business.

• Deputies on San Juan assisted emergency medical services with an overdose.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle with no license plates. The driver was issued a citation for an expired vehicle registration of more than two months and for not having insurance.

June 15

• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver for failing to signal and a defective taillight. The deputy had probable cause to believe the driver was impaired. The driver was arrested, processed and released with a promise to appear in court.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a warning for speeding, for failing to carry a driver’s license and for not having proof of insurance.

• A Lopez deputy assisted fire and EMS with an injury bicycle crash that resulted in the cyclist being flown to a mainland hospital for treatment.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a collision. Information was exchanged and a report generated.

• A Lopez deputy stopped a motorist near the Lopez Village after he saw him driving without wearing his seat belt. The driver received a ticket for failing to wear his seat belt, for having expired tabs (of more than two months) and for not having vehicle insurance.

• A Lopez driver was issued a warning for running a stop sign.

June 16

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign. The driver was issued a citation for not having a valid operator’s license with ID and for failing to stop at stop sign.

•A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a damaged utility pole that was leaning out over Fisherman Bay Road. The pole appeared structurally sound, and the utility will be notified of the damage. It did not appear to be from a traffic collision.

• San Juan deputies located a group of transients at a local park. One person was arrested on multiple warrants, the others moved along.

• A deputy stopped the driver in Friday Harbor for an expired registration and a defective brake light. The driver was arrested for driving on a suspended driver’s license and was issued a citation for not having insurance and an expired vehicle registration for more than two months.

June 17

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of a trespass-in-progress. The suspects left the scene but were captured on video, and will be served a trespass notice.

• In Friday Harbor a deputy responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at a local business. The property was returned, the business did not wish to prosecute and the person was escorted from the business.

• After a report of an unwanted person at a local business in Friday Harbor, deputies escorted the person from the property and completed a report.

• A Lopez deputy received a second-hand report of a possible single-vehicle collision that had occurred the night before caused by a driver who may have been intoxicated. The involved party was contacted.

• A deputy on Lopez took a fraud report involving a scam where the suspect, who had impersonated a law enforcement officer, demanded money to resolve a pending crisis.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a fraud call.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a possible domestic disturbance. After deputies searched the area, the complaint was discovered to be unfounded.

• An Orcas deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and driving left of center. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

June 18

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of a traffic offense in Friday Harbor, gathered information and submitted a report.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a request to have someone escorted from a business. The person was served with a trespass warning letter.

• A deputy conducted a welfare check on San Juan.
