Orcas burglaries, bag of white powder found at SJI Library | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls:

Dec. 14

• A Lopez Island man turned in a carton of pasta that he had found on Ferry Rd., Lopez Island. Attempts to identify the owner will be made.

• A Friday Harbor resident reported his cell phone account being “hacked” by an unknown party. Multiple phones were bought and shipped to an address out of state. The complainant is working with the fraud department at Sprint.

• A Lopez Island woman reported a dog running at large in her south end neighborhood. The dog was well cared for but would not let anyone approach it, and repeatedly ran off. The responding deputy attempted to catch the dog with negative results. A report was completed.

• A deputy spoke with a Lopez Island resident regarding a traffic violation involving a school bus. The driver suspected of the violation was contacted and the investigation revealed insufficient evidence of a violation of the cited traffic code. A report was completed.

• Deputies were dispatched to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. Contact was made and no law enforcement was action required.

Dec. 15

• A deputy was dispatched to a report of fraud in Eastsound. The incident happened out of jurisdiction. A report was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check on Orcas. The deputy was later contacted by the reporting party and told everything was fine and no more action needed to be taken.

• A deputy responded to a protection order violation that occurred on Orcas Island. A search of the suspect was conducted with negative results. A report was taken. Investigation continues.

• A deputy responded to a hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred on Orcas Island. A report was taken, and an investigation continues.

Dec. 16

• A deputy was dispatched to Friday Harbor Elementary School in reference to an 11-year-old Special Education Student. After his arrival at the school and a short conversation with administrators, they chose to handle it internally.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a welfare check on an Eastsound man. The man stated and appeared fine. No further action was taken or required.

• A San Juan County Sheriff Deputy responded to a reported break-in at an Eastsound business. It was discovered that person(s) unknown had pried open a back door and stolen a few items. The case is currently under investigation.

• At approximately 8:59 p.m. deputies responded to a residence on San Juan Island to investigate a possible suicide attempt. Deputies found that an assault had taken place and a female was taken into custody.

Dec. 17

• A reporting deputy was dispatched to a domestic distrubance which occurred in the San Juan Island area. The reporting deputy arrived and made contact with the involved parties. One subject was arrested for a Domestic Violence Assault, 4th Degree and a Malicious Mischief in the 3rd Degree. The arrested subject was booked into custody.

• Lopez Island deputies were sent to check Hummel Lake on reports of kids out on the ice. No one was at the lake when deputies arrived.

• A Lopez Island deputy was requested to assist EMS on an aid call involving an injured woman screaming for help. Upon arrival, it was determined the injury was accidental and no law enforcement involvement was necessary.

• At 6:39 p.m. a small baggy with a white powdery substance inside of it was found on the floor of the Friday Harbor Library. A staff member contacted the Sheriff’s Office to have it retrieved. The substance was impounded for destruction. Library staff does not know who dropped the baggy.

• A deputy was dispatched to contact Fire Station 21 reference a suspicious incident. The deputy contacted the station and a report will be following.

• Deputies responded to a dispatched domestic violence call in progress at an Eastsound residence. An initial investigation was completed and a report to follow.

Dec. 18

• At approximately 10:46 p.m. deputies discovered a wanted subject on the passenger’s side of a vehicle while it was parked in Friday Harbor. The subject was taken into custody without incident.

Dec. 19

• A deputy was dispatched on a welfare check in the Friday Harbor area. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted the involved parties. One subject was taken into protective custody for evaluation.

• A San Juan County Sheriff deputy responded to a reported theft at 268 Indralaya Road. Person(s) unknown entered a home on Orcas Island and stole two large jars full of change. No other items were taken or disturbed in the home. The case is under further investigation.

• A Lopez deputy assisted a Lopez woman in changing a flat tire.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a welfare check on a Lopez woman. The Lopez resident was found safe.

Dec. 20

• A Lopez Island deputy was sent to investigate a vessel aground in Mud Bay. The sailboat had drifted free of its mooring and run aground on a sandy beach. The owner was notified and said he will recover the boat ASAP. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island woman reported packages taken from her mailbox. The investigation continues.
