Title designer for ‘Music Man’ lives on San Juan

Wayne Fitzgerald, who has lived on San Juan since 2003, is the man behind the title design for the original 1962 film of Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man.”

Fitzgerald directed a team of 35 who painted marchers and instruments, built sets, laid out the animation, and shot and edited the sequences.

Fitzgerald worked for Pacific Title and Art Studio when he created “The Music Man” titles. Not long after, while he was designing the title sequence for “Bonnie & Clyde,” Warren Beatty convinced Fitzgerald to work as a freelance designer.

He established Wayne Fitzgerald Film Design, working on more than 1,000 films as well as television programs for which he earned three Emmys.

He lives on San Juan with his wife, Mary Ellen, and their dog, Beau.
