In a salute to the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, Washington State Ferries will observe a moment of silence Saturday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day.

At 11:11 a.m., there will be a two-minute moment of silence on all vessels sailing at that time. Following the moment of silence, the ships will blow their whistles in unison to recognize the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans.

This is the second year WSF vessels have commemorated the holiday, which holds special significance for many ferry workers.

“Many of our employees have served and defended our country,” said WSF head Amy Scarton. “They are now serving the people of Washington state by connecting communities, including military families and facilities, as well as other veterans.”

Washington State Ferries, a division of the Washington State Department of Transportation, is the largest ferry system in the U.S. and safely and efficiently carries 24 million people a year through some of the most majestic scenery in the world.
