Funeral services Saturday for Landis Pederson | Passages

Landis (Lando) Pederson, 20, of Friday Harbor passed away Aug. 8, 2011 while swimming with friends at Lawson Pond.

Landis (Lando) Pederson, 20, of Friday Harbor passed away Aug. 8, 2011 while swimming with friends at Lawson Pond.

He was born April 17, 1991 in Olympia, Wash., and moved to Friday Harbor in 1993 with his parents Richard and Rhonda Pederson.

He attended Friday Harbor schools and graduated in 2009.

Landis attended Central Washington University, where he made many friends and explored his independence. He returned to Friday Harbor in December 2010 when he got a job working at Friday Harbor House.

Recently, he had been working on a back deck and garden area at Friday Harbor House.

Landis was known on the island for his ready smile, friendly conversation, sense of humor and dedication to his job, friends and family. As a youth he participated in many sports activities.

His first “real” job was as a visitor’s ambassador in Friday Harbor where he developed his great communication skills. Landis loved to talk to everyone. He also loved rap music, being physically active and staying in touch with his friends on the phone and internet.

He is survived by his mother Rhonda Pederson and her fiancé Moris Estrada, father Richard Pederson, brother Austin, stepbrother Alex Estrada and stepsister Shelby Estrada.

He is also survived by his grandmother Hilda Mogck, grandfather Duane Mogck, grandmother Nancy Steer and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; he is predeceased by his grandfather George Steer.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., Sat., Aug. 20, 2011 at the Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church, 425 Spring Street, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m., with interment at Valley Cemetery.

A reception will be held immediately following the graveside service at the Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor in Landis’s name.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Anacortes, Wash., and the San Juan Islands.
