Charter in spotlight in League of Women Voters' election debate
Changes to San Juan County's Home Rule Charter as recommended by the Charter Review Commission will be in the spotlight as a panel of opponents and supporters of the ballot measures will square off in a two-hour debate, Monday, Sept. 17, at the monthly meeting of the San Juan Islands chapter of the League of Women Voters.
The meeting is, Monday, noon to 2 p.m. in the conference room of San Juan Island Library, 1010 Guard Street.
The panel includes CRC Chairman Gordy Petersen and the CRC's Ron Zee, speaking in favor of propositions No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, on the November election ballot, and San Juan Island's Don Pollard, recently retired after a career in public administration, an outspoken critic of the CRC's proposals.
Those in attendance will have an opportunity to ask questions of the panel. The event is sponsored by San Juan Islands League of Women Voters. For more info about Monday's event, 378-3021
