County Sheriff’s Log | Nov. 9 – Nov. 15

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Nov. 9

• A Friday Harbor resident turned in an item that was mailed to her house. She attempted to send the item to the rightful owner but the item was mailed back to her address. The deputy attempted to contact the rightful property owner with negative results. The item was impounded for safekeeping.

• A deputy was dispatched to the Eastsound area in reference to a driving under the influence call. The vehicle was located. An initial investigation was conducted and the driver arrested for DUI.

• A citizen reported a reckless driver on San Juan. The vehicle did not slow or stop at the intersection of Beaverton Valley and Egg Lake Road and nearly struck a vehicle traveling Westbound on Beaverton Valley Road.

• A Lopez deputy checked a vehicle at the Lopez Hill trailhead after dark. Two Lopez residents were contacted inside. They were warned about being on Land Bank property after dark and asked to leave. They complied. No further action was necessary.

Nov. 10

• A deputy was dispatched to a possible domestic disturbance in progress in Friday Harbor. Parties were separated and an informational report was taken.

• Deputies responded to a residence within the town of Friday Harbor in reference to a possible domestic disturbance. One of the parties involved was taken into protective custody due to his or her mental health status.

• A vessel was issued a parking ticket for violation of a day-use only mooring at the San Juan County boat dock on Orcas. This vessel has been previously warned in writing and cited for this violation.

Nov. 11

• A Lopez deputy responded to a dog at large complaint. The dog was returned to its owner and the owner was given a warning.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a welfare check. The subject was located off island and deemed safe.

• A Friday Harbor resident came to the sheriff’s office to report that someone was trespassing in an RV he rents for his workers. Deputies went with the reporting person to the trailer. The male was contacted and agreed to leave.

• Deputies were dispatched to the area of the Rosario Resort in regards to a single vehicle rollover accident. The driver exhibited signs and symptoms of possible driving under the influence. Tests were given and the driver was arrested for DUI.

Nov. 12

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to the Friday Harbor area in reference to a theft. The reporting deputy arrived and investigated the incident. The subject was arrested for theft.

• Friday Harbor deputies served a protection order and collected five firearms from the respondent. The respondent was found to have a felony record. A report was forwarded to the prosecutor for possible charges.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a driver for speeding, 63 mph in a 40 mph speed zone. The driver provided all of the proper documents and was cited for speeding.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a dog at large. The dog was a male husky type dog with no collar and it was unknown who the dog belonged to. The deputy brought the dog to the animal shelter.

• A Lopez Island deputy observed suspicious activity on a dock in the Mackaye Harbor area. Investigating further, 12 people with flashlights were found observing marine life. No further action was necessary.

Nov. 13

• A deputy responded to a call in reference to unknown trouble at an Eastsound residence. An initial investigation was completed and a report was taken.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to the Friday Harbor area in reference to a domestic violence call. The reporting deputy arrived and contacted the involved parties. After investigating the incident, it was found to be verbal only. Involved parties agreed to separate for the day.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched for a welfare check after a friend could not reach a Lopez resident by phone on her birthday. The Lopez woman was located safe, and wished a happy birthday.

• Deputies followed up on a tip from a citizen regarding the whereabouts of a wanted person. The wanted person was found, arrested and transported to the Friday Harbor station without incident.

Nov. 14

• A deputy was dispatched to the San Juan Island area in reference to an overdose. The reporting deputy arrived and made contact with the involved parties. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to the Lopez Elementary School in reference to a report of a dog that “came visiting unannounced.” The owner was located and warned.

• Deputies were dispatched to an accident at Guard Street and Tucker Avenue. A 300-foot trail of car parts led to a damaged parked truck to a car with serious front end damage. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and booked into jail, pending court.

Nov. 15

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to the Friday Harbor area in reference to a theft. The reporting deputy contacted the victim. The victim advised that their vehicle was broken into the previous night. The investigation continues.

• A deputy was contacted at the sheriff’s office in Friday Harbor in reference to a wanted person. The reporting deputy took the person into custody.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to an unattended death in the San Juan Island area. The reporting deputy arrived and investigated the scene.
