Boat, without passengers, sinks near Friday Harbor

The U.S. Coast Guard responded to a 40-foot sailing vessel that sank Wednesday, Sept. 5 in Friday Harbor.

The vessel had been anchored for some time with no people reported aboard.

Members from the Island Oil Spill Association reported a marine diesel sheen from an estimated 20-gallon tank and have deployed a boom to contain the spill.

Sector Puget Sound Incident Management Division opened the Oil Spill Emergency Fund and contracted Global Diving and Salvage to secure the fuel tanks.
