Five Friday Harbor residents have applied for appointment to the Friday Harbor Town Council:

— Linda Browne, a former Friday Harbor port commissioner. She is a real estate agent.

— Peggy Long, vice president of the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce. She is vice president of Naknek Charters & Diving, and Bandito Charters.

— Matt Shildneck, a member of the town’s Historic Preservation Review Board and the Planning Commission. He is an electrician.

— Barbara Starr, a former member of the town Planning Commission. She is a licensed clinical social worker.

— Dorothy Stone, a non-denominational minister who officiates weddings and commitment ceremonies.

The council position became available when Carrie Brooks resigned, effective July 1. The term ends Dec. 31, 2011. Council members receive $85 a meeting.

The applicants will be interviewed by the council Thursday at the noon meeting, with appointment following.

The Town Council will also consider proposed pollution-filtering rain gardens on Spring Street and annexation of land for Peace Island Medical Center.

The rain garden proposal and the council appointment are on the noon agenda. The public hearing for annexation and zoning of the hospital property are on the 5:30 p.m. agenda.
