"The time is always right to do the right thing." -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Jan. 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968)

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday honoring the late civil rights leader.

Today, any islanders will commemorate the day by participating in a Day of Community Service at Mullis Community Senior Center.

"Come do a little work and have a little fun at the second annual day of community service at the Mullis Community and Senior Center," author Janet Thomas said in a press release. "Work hours are from 2-4 p.m. Celebration is at 4 p.m.

"Last year, more than 65 people showed up and contributed their time working inside and outside the center. This year, donations to the Food Bank will also be greatly appreciated. The community is invited to participate in any or all of the day's activities."
