The Gerbil: Chamber of Commerce will spend stimulus money to start program to help islanders feel better about the economy
April 2, 2009 · 9:37 AM
The San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce has announced it will spend some of its federal stimulus money to start a program to help islanders feel better about the economy.
Chamber Director Debbie Pigman said the program will employ Disney characters as morale boosters.
Shoppers feeling a little uncertain about spending money this spring, summer and fall may find themselves getting some assurance from a familiar character.
“Nothing takes those worries about the economy away like a hug from Pluto,” Pigman said.
Jiminy Cricket will introduce an updated version of “I’m No Fool.”
“I’m no fool, no sirree!
I’m going downtown to spend some money.
I have confidence in the economy
’Cause I’m no fool!”
The morale boosters are expected to be lifting downtown spirits by Memorial Day.
