Lopez resident David Fisher died while snowboarding with his two sons at the Mount Baker ski area on Wednesday, Feb. 18 in the early afternoon.

Fisher, 49, was the husband of Karen Fisher and the father of Ellen, 16, Grant, 14, and Lachlan, 10. He was snowboarding with Grant and Lachlan within the ski area's boundaries when they came upon a steep slope. Fisher took off his snowboard and began trekking down the slope to scout a route down for the boys when he lost his balance, fell 50 feet, and hit his head on a tree.

An account has been set up at Islanders Bank on Lopez. Make checks out to Karen Fisher and mail to Islanders Bank, P.O. Box 157, Lopez WA 98261.

A remembrance and celebration will be held on Sunday, March 1 at Lopez Center starting at 5:30 p.m.
