A Portland man en route to the San Juan Islands on vacation had a heart attack on the Sealth Tuesday afternoon as the ferry was preparing to leave Anacortes for the San Juans.

David Kinzer died later in the Island Hospital emergency room, according to Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes.

Kinzer and his wife had been vacationing at Bayview and were en route to the San Juans when he suffered a heart attack. The ferry was the 2:30 p.m. departure. Ingrid Fabianson, a Hospice social worker living on San Juan Island, was on the ferry at the time. She said medical personnel boarded the ferry and said she was told by ferry workers later that the man had died.
